Cemeteries and crematoria serving the Earl’s Court area

Although we’re funeral directors in Earl’s Court, we work with cemeteries and crematoria across the UK. You are free to choose any location for a burial or cremation, although the rates will vary for non-residents.

But usually, when somebody dies in or around Earl’s Court, families choose a local cemetery or crematorium for the funeral as there will be ties to the area, or there may be other family members already buried or interned there. Gunnersbury Cemetery
Founded in 1929, Gunnersbury Cemetery next to Gunnersbury Park, also known as New Kensington Cemetery, is managed by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea although geographically it sits in the London Borough of Hounslow.

Gunnersbury Cemetery accepts new burials, although it does ask that the person who has died, and the person who purchases the plot, to both be residents of Kensington and Chelsea to receive residents’ rates. There is small burial chapel and a Garden of Remembrance for cremated remains.

    By car: Gunnersbury Cemetery is a turning off the A406 (Gunnersbury Avenue) and a short distance from the Chiswick roundabout and M4 turn off.

    By Tube: The nearest London Underground station is Acton Town on the Piccadilly and District lines, which is an 18 minute walk. Or Gunnersbury on the District line which is a 19 minute walk.

    By bus: The following bus lines run close to Gunnersbury Cemetery: 110, 237, 267, 440, E3, H9.

Hanwell Cemetery (Kensington and Chelsea) 
This part of Hanwell Cemetery is often known as the Kensington and Chelsea Cemetery although it’s situated in the London Borough of Ealing. Opened in 1855 to serve the residents of North Kensington, it is now owned and managed by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The entrance from the Uxbridge Road is through a tall stone arch with heavy iron gates and past a lodge. The gate and the chapel (which is no longer in use) are built in the revived Gothic style.

There is a second Hanwell Cemetery which is managed by City of Westminster Parks Service.

  • Hanwell Cemetery is located at:
    31 Uxbridge Road
    Ealing
    London W7 3PP

    By car: The cemetery is located on the south side of the Uxbridge Road, which has access to the nearby M4. There is parking within the cemetery and there are designated parking places for disabled badge holders.

    By Tube: The nearest London Underground stations are Ealing Broadway on the District and Central line which is a 30 minute walk, and Boston Manor on the Piccadilly line which is also a 30 minute walk. Hanwell station on the Elizabeth Line is an 11 minute walk to the cemetery.

    By bus: Bus numbers 3, E8, 83 and 207 all stop close to the cemetery.

Brompton Cemetery
Brompton Cemetery was consecrated by the Bishop of London in June 1840 and is one of Britain's oldest garden cemeteries. Located in West Brompton in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, it’s managed by the Royal Parks and is Britain's only Crown Cemetery.

The cemetery features two sweeping colonnades and a spectacular chapel made from honey coloured Bath stone that seats up to 100. The chapel, colonnades and Brompton Road gate are all Grade II* listed.

Burial plots are available and there is also a Garden of Remembrance for cremated remains, as well as a columbarium for urns.

  • Brompton Cemetery is located at:
    Fulham Road
    London SW10 9UG

    By car: There is no parking at the cemetery. However, there is limited paid street parking nearby and there are public car parks on Fulham Road and Lillie Road.

    By Tube: There are two entrances to Brompton Cemetery. The South Gate is just off Fulham Road, while the North Gate is off Old Brompton Road. The closest London Underground station to Brompton Cemetery is West Brompton on the District line, which is an 8 minute walk. Earl’s Court station on the District and Piccadilly lines is an 11 minute walk away. Both Tube stations are closer to North Gate.

    By bus: Several buses serve the local area, including the 14, 74, 190, 211, 328, 414, 430, C1 and C3.

Mortlake Crematorium
Mortlake Crematorium, borders Kew and Mortlake, and is managed jointly by four London boroughs including Ealing, Hounslow, Richmond upon Thames, and Hammersmith and Fulham,

Opened in 1939, the crematorium has a beautiful chapel which seats 94, with additional seating for 36 in the gallery. There is also a peaceful Garden of Remembrance on the site, as well as a dovecote.

  • Mortlake Crematorium is located at:
    Kew Meadow Path
    Richmond TW9 4EN

    By car: Key Meadow Path is a turning off the A205 South Circular Road. Parking is available on site.

    By train: The nearest station is Mortlake operated by South Western Railway which is 15 minute walk away.

    By Tube: The nearest station is Kew Gardens on the District and Overground lines which is a 15 minute walk to the crematorium.

Kensal Green Cemetery and West London Crematorium
The historic Kensal Green Cemetery and West London Crematorium is located in North Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and is run by The General Cemetery Company. The cemetery, which currently has limited burial plots, opened in 1833 and is London’s oldest cemetery. The West London Crematorium and Gardens of Remembrance opened in 1939.

There are two chapels, built in the neo classical style, which are suitable for all religious services and memorials. The East Chapel has oak pews and oak panelling, and can accommodate around 95 people seated. While the West Chapel is decorated in a more contemporary style and seats up to 90 people on individual chairs with room for more standing.

  • Kensal Green and West London Crematorium is located at:
    Harrow Road
    North Kensington
    London W10 4RA

    By car: The entrance to the cemetery and crematorium is on Harrow Road, just 5 minutes from M40/Westway via Scrubs Lane. There is a car park at the crematorium and parking is also available on the cemetery roads.

    By train: The nearest train station is Kensal Green Station which is on the London Overground line and is just a 5 minute walk to the cemetery and crematorium.

    By Tube: The closet London Underground station is Kensal Green station which is on the Bakerloo line and is also a 5 minute walk.

    By bus: The number 18 bus goes to the cemetery and crematorium. The stop is KV.
